Canada Legalizes Recreational Cannabis!

Thank you Justin Trudeau for introducing legislation to legalize cannabis last year. It was a brave move for any country’s leader, especially one with such close ties to the United States.
This is the third country in the world to legalize cannabis for personal use, Uruguay has legalized cannabis for personal, and medical use, and legalized cultivation also. Spain has restricted legal cannabis use, and has limited the use of medical cannabis, and allows growing for personal use but only out of site of anyone from a street or public place.

Canadian Senator Tony Dean said to reporters yesterday “We’ve… Continue reading

Build a Home with Hemp Concrete

Hemp concrete is something from the earth,
combined with something grown in the earth,
which shelters you and is good for your health.

Hemp concrete is perhaps the best alternative building material I have stumbled across yet. I have investigated straw bales, adobe, sun fired bricks, concrete blocks, and used shipping containers. None of these have the long-lasting health and environmental benefits that hemp offers.

Hemp concrete is a bio-composite material made from a resin matrix with natural hemp fibers for reinforcement. The resin in hemp concrete is made from lime (possibly including natural hydraulic lime, sand, and volcanic ash… Continue reading

California Tokes Up! Cannabis Legalization is Here!

Thousands of Californians and visitors waited in line this morning to purchase their first legal recreational marijuana in the state.

Thanks to Proposition 64, as of January 1st, 2018, California’s cannabis legalization is now a fact!

One of the largest purveyors of cannabis in California, Harborside in Oakland opened at 6am and was soon packed to capacity.  Operating as a medical marijuana dispensary for many years, Harborside, along with many other medical dispensaries, have chosen to sell recreational marijuana as well now.  The only difference besides needing a medical recommendation for medical cannabis (yes, prop 215 is still in effect), is the price.  Medical cannabis is not taxed as high as recreational, which adds 15% to the retail cost as well as taxes at the wholesale level. Lab Testing Cannabis

So, you got a fat sack from your friend, do you have any idea what’s in there besides those choice nugs?

Did you know there’s a huge chance that it’s got a fair share of mold spores, fungicide residue and most likely some pesticide. The kind of thing a lab can test for, and prevent you from getting sick from the use of it.

Bud damaged by mold.

Sad, but it’s true. Since California passed it’s ‘legalization’ law last year, many dispensaries and manufacturers of cannabis products have begun testing their cannabis. Some have in fact quietly pulled product from… Continue reading

Cannabis Revitalizes Brain in Older Mice

A new scientific study on the effects of cannabis on mice of varying ages showed that mature and older mice exhibited vastly improved memory and cognitive abilities when given a daily dose of cannabis extract.  The change was so drastic, the older mice performed as well as drug-free young mice in memory tests.

Unexpectedly, younger mice who were given the same dose, performed worse on the same tests than the older mice who were given cannabis.

“These results reveal a profound, long-lasting improvement of cognitive performance resulting from a low dose of THC treatment in mature and old animals,” the scientists write. The boost in brain function was linked to an apparent restoration of gene expression in the brain to more youthful levels.
